ERC ENDOMETRIOSIS AWARENESS
The ERC is an internationally recognized leader in raising disease awareness, globally and locally in all forms of online and print media. We have long kept the disease in front of society, and welcome and encourage all awareness campaign ideas. We will gladly support endeavors as requested on case by case consideration basis. We commend all individuals who participate in our many programs intended to spread truthful awareness and gratefully acknowledge your support. However, we kindly ask that you please read through the following before submitting any ideas for ERC awareness endeavors. “Change the ribbon color” efforts: we sometimes receive requests to form a “change the awareness ribbon color” endeavor. We have already done so previously upon request, and were met with incredibly underwhelming response. The internationally accepted and widely utilized ribbon is yellow, which we proudly share with the “Support the Troops” campaign. Note that MOST diseases, disorders and concerns share ribbon colors with other causes as well. “Host a national EndoWalk”: the ERC has already been involved in, by invitation of the organizers, the previous National Walk efforts. We do not have the resources to host such an endeavor ourselves, particularly one which is already organized and hosted by another independent, grassroots foundation. We DO, and will CONTINUE TO, however, engage in local awareness walks/runs and will gladly support any suggestions brought to us by committed individuals willing to undertake the work necessary to organization such an event. “Write to Dr. Oz”: Dr. Oz has done several shows on endometriosis. Likewise, he is an ardent supporter of endometriosis awareness and has served as a spokesperson for another foundation. Some of our staff was also involved in the creation of his updated Sharecare website content on endometriosis. "Write to Oprah": Oprah's show is defunct; also, she did a previous show on the disease which completely misrepresented and invalidated it. We do not participate in "Write to Oprah" events; similarly, we do not support "Get 'this individual' on 'this show'" endeavors. We work carefully with the greater media to ensure endometriosis as a whole is correctly represented. Funding Third Parties: ERC cannot and will not engage in any campaigns that raise money for other organizations. We already support specifically selected research and endometriosis foundations, and as a 501(c)3 charitable organization that uniquely relies on donations, we cannot afford to engage in efforts that do not at least in part raise monies which do not directly benefit our constituency or that of our chosen collaborators. Thank you for your understanding. "Make an endo quilt/cookbook/etc." - we've already done these and enjoyed the efforts and outcome; however, we will not 'reinvent the wheel' on this front. Other considerations for awareness events will be reviewed on a case by case basis. It is unlikely we will support or dedicate resources to events or considerations which are already in place by others or have been done previously. We appreciate your understanding and support of our limited resources and the resultant need to be prudent about those efforts and campaigns which we lend our organization to.
